Birr company wins Offaly County Enterprise Award for 2018

County Enterprise Awards one of many highlights during ‘Local Enterprise Week’

 A telecommunications business from Birr, Co. Offaly has won the County Enterprise Award for 2018.

The top prize of €1,500 went to Neil Wisdom of Intellicom Ireland Ltd. in Birr, Co. Offaly who will now represent Local Enterprise Office Offaly at the National Enterprise Awards, which celebrates its 20th anniversary on May 24th.

Intellicom develops, sells and supports modern cloud based telephone, contact centre and connectivity solutions to the Irish and European market.  They improve staff and customer communications, efficiency, productivity and satisfaction.  They deliver cost savings and a better way of communicating for all sizes of business in all industry sectors.  This company employs 9 full-time and 3 part-time staff with plans to employ two more people in 2018.

Other winners at the awards ceremony, held at the Tullamore Court Hotel included Ferbane based Euram Air Leases (Ire) Ltd. (Export Excellence Award); Tullamore based Arderin Distillery (Marketing and Branding Award) and Shinrone based Wild Irish Foragers (Artisan Food Award).

Judging for the National Final will take place in April and Intellicom Ireland Ltd. will be competing against 30 other finalists from every local authority area for a share of the €40,000 prize fund. The Mansion House in Dublin is the venue for awards ceremony in May and categories this year include ‘Best Export Business,’ ‘Best Start Up Business’ and ‘Innovation,’ in addition to eight regional awards.

Speaking during Local Enterprise Week, Orla Martin, Head of Enterprise with Local Enterprise Office Offaly said: “Intellicom Ireland Ltd. has already become a success story and the judges were particularly impressed by their business strategy, their success in domestic and export markets and their use of innovation and technology. As Local Enterprise Offices celebrate twenty years of the National Enterprise Awards in 2018, Offaly are proud to be represented by Intellicom Ireland Ltd. in this extra special year.”

Five other local businesses were received Merit Awards this year, and they were Tullamore based Tag Media Ltd, T/a Dezynamite; Engineering and Maintenance Support Services (EMSS) Ltd.; Tullamore Floor Store; Clara based Cusmol Ltd., T/a Midland Sacks and Covers and Daingean Based Mark Feely Carpentry.

Among the special guests at the ceremony were Cllr. Liam Quinn, Cathaoirleach of Offaly County Council, Chief Executive Anna Marie Delaney; guest speaker Noel Davidson; elected representatives; members of the business community and former winners). The judging panel comprised Mr. Peter Sullivan of Byrne Casey & Associates and Ms. Evelyn Reddin, Local Enterprise Office Laois.

The awards were just one of the many highlights of Local Enterprise Week, which comes to an end on March 9th. All over the country, the 31 Local Enterprise Offices have been jointly running over 300 events aimed at start-ups, aspiring entrepreneurs and small businesses in their area, to mark the week.
